Make It Your Own Internship and Placement

The 'Make It Your Own Internship' is a creative and flexible internship scheme created to allow current university students the autonomy to shape their own internship experiences.

Responsibilities

By undertaking the "Make It Your Own Internship" scheme with IVAS, you will have the chance to take ownership of your learning journey and contribute to projects that resonate with your skills and ambitions. You will be supported by a mentor and will be working closely with other IVAS members.

Guided by your mentor, this unique opportunity allows you to define the scope, objectives and projects of your internships. This scheme will give you the below meaningful work experiences aligned with your academic interests and career aspirations:

  • Project Proposal and Planning: Collaborate with your mentor to outline a project proposal that aligns with your academic focus and career goals.

  • Define the scope, objectives, and deliverables of the project, ensuring its relevance to the organization's needs.

  • Skill Development: Identify specific skills you aim to enhance during the internship, whether they relate to research, analysis, communication, or technical proficiency.

  • Engage in workshops, training, and learning opportunities to support your skill development objectives.

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research relevant to your project, gathering insights and data that contribute to informed decision-making. Utilise analytical tools and methodologies to extract valuable information from collected data.

  • Project Execution: Take the lead in executing your project plan, managing timelines, tasks, and resources efficiently. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure project milestones are achieved.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of project progress, outcomes, and challenges faced during the internship.

  • Prepare regular reports and presentations to update mentors, supervisors, and stakeholders on your work.

  • Problem-Solving: Identify opportunities for innovation within your project and propose creative solutions to challenges encountered. Embrace a proactive approach to problem-solving, seeking guidance when needed.

  • Networking and Collaboration: Engage with professionals within and beyond your field of work, building relationships that contribute to your professional growth. Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and collaborative activities to leverage collective expertise.

  • Reflection and Learning: Engage in regular reflection sessions with your mentor to discuss progress, lessons learned, and future steps. Extract insights from your experience to apply to your academic pursuits and future career decisions.
